About Tom's coffee roastery
Good Morning!
My name is Tom from Tom's coffee roastery. Our roastery was opened on May 10th, 2014. The extraordinary location on Ladenstraße in the U-Bhf. Uncle Tom's cabin already has a long tradition.
In 1932 the subway station was completed. The world-famous architect Bruno Taut designed the historic building with shops along the railway tracks and even at this early stage the smell of freshly roasted coffee wafted through the station.
Kaffee Otto was the soul of the shopping street for almost 50 years. There are still many contemporary witnesses who are happy to tell how they grew up with the daily smell of roasted coffee in the air. Of course we are happy to be able to continue this tradition.
We roast in the so-called drum roasting process - particularly slowly and at low temperatures (190-230 degrees). In comparison to the industrial roasting process, in which very large quantities of green coffee are roasted in 3-4 minutes at up to 700 degrees Celsius. With this industrial roasting process, it has been proven that it is not possible to completely roast out bitter substances and the so-called chlorogenic acid - in contrast to our slow roasting process.
Our gentle roasting process means that the coffee remains very low in acid and aromatic.
We simply think that there is too much "bad" coffee out there. A nice compliment one sometimes hears is "Tom... we ran out of coffee at the weekend, we had to buy it elsewhere, that was the ultimate penalty!".
This spurs us on to constantly improve our quality standards and to be passionate about everything the coffee world has to offer us. The roasts are done in small margins, so that the roasted coffee always arrives nice and fresh!
Once you have tried our coffee, you will often no longer have "conventional" coffee in your cup. This is how our customers become real coffee specialists over time!
We process specialty highland coffees from South and Central America, Africa and Asia.
South and Central American coffee beans have z. B. very often rather nutty and chocolaty notes, Asian coffees are usually a little stronger and spicier, while coffees from Africa are often more flowery and fruity. We don't want to confuse you, the important thing is of course that you like the coffee!
Our direct trade coffees are particularly important to us. For a few years we have also been selling numerous top coffees that are traded directly (meaning: no middlemen) and also actively support social projects at the place of production - e.g. B. the coffee farmers receive social benefits and their children have access to educational institutions. We obtain these green coffees e.g. B. from a farm in Colombia that we know personally (Hacienda Misiones), from the indigenous peoples of Peru (Ilhari) or our forest coffee from the Ethiopian jungle (Naturplan certified).
The trained baristas at Tom's coffee roastery are always happy to prepare our numerous types of coffee for you in our cafe during our opening hours - no wishes remain unfulfilled!
In our range we also have a lot to do with coffee preparation, such as
e.g. B. Italian portafilter espresso machines from VBM (Vibiemme), Bialetti stovetop pots in numerous designs and sizes, Bodum FrenchPress, AeroPress and suitable hand mills as well as various spare parts and more.
We also have a generous range of local Berlin products (e.g. Ohde marzipan from Neukölln, cinnamon & pepper from Mitte), delicatessen (honey from Spain, olive oil from Greece) and fine Belgian, Italian or Swedish chocolates and pralines. and we also have something to offer for liquorice lovers. Visit us and try the delicacies over a cup of coffee!
If you wish, we will be happy to advise you in our shop or by phone from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m..
We also deliver to B2B customers as well as cafes and restaurants.
